Beginnings
:
Beginnings is an “8X10” glossy covered magazine which is designed especially for the beginner writer. Beginnings serves as a forum for the new writer, and as a launching pad for their literary creations. This is the magazine in which struggling, talented writers can finally see their work in print! Everyone who submits receives a response, sometimes with personal critiques. Publishes Stories, Poems and Articles. Requires a self-addressed, stamped envelope with submissions. Manuscripts without SASE will not be read or returned. No e-mail submissions permitted but e-mail queries are okay. Address poetry to Sandra Soli (Sanplum@aol.com), poetry editor; short stories to Carolyn Wall (CWall@bylinemag.com), fiction editor; all other manuscripts or queries to Marcia Preston (MPreston@bylinemag.com), editor. The Aquarian is a tabloid-size newsprint publication, published quarterly on the first week of March, June, September, and December, and distributed free in Winnipeg and beyond. It currently runs 20 pages, with a circulation of about 14,000 copies and a roughly 50:50 editorial to advertising mix. The Aquarian is also a website that reaches around the world, reprinting a variety of articles from the print publication and linking to top-notch "Aquariana" elsewhere on the Web. Boulevard strives to publish only the finest in fiction, poetry, and non-fiction (essays, interviews, etc.). While they frequently publish writers with previous credits, they are very interested in publishing less experienced or unpublished writers with exceptional promise. If you have practiced your craft and your work is the best it can be, send it to Boulevard.
The publishers do not recommend that
beginning or hobbyist writers view this site as a good market for their
work; however, semi-pros and dedicated
up-and-comers are encouraged to submit. Absinthe writers have been published
by the highest tier of the literary industry (The New Yorker, Glimmer Train,
Zoetrope, Paris Review, Mississippi Review, Triquarterly, Iowa Review,
Exquisite Corpse, Ploughshares, Web Del Sol) and have won major literary
awards (Pushcarts, NEA grants, Aga Khan, etc.) so be aware that your work
will be judged against some of the best, most innovative writers working
today. |
